MAF KODIAK PK-MEA is very busy serving the people of Papua, Indonesia. Looking back at one of the MAF pilots’ flight logs shows a variety of ways she has served.

One day she was called for a medevac flight, to pick up a child in Nipsan village who had a piece of wood stuck in his eye. She flew to the village and whisked him away to get medical care. He has healed well after receiving medical treatment in Wamena.

In December she brought a Pioneers missionary couple back to the Nalca area where they had served for so many years before. They spent Christmas with the local churches there and encouraged the people in their Kingdom work.

PK-MEA also helped train one of the new MAF pilots so he could get “checked out” at the remote villages of Sumtamon, Paro, and Kenyam, which means the pilot can now fly by himself and safely land or takeoff at these three villages. The new pilot flew PK-MEA along with the chief pilot and together they tackled each day’s schedule, handling medical evacuations, church flights, or general community flights.

On another day the KODIAK took a load of building materials and food supplies to Soba. From there, she traveled to Obukain where she picked up a missionary family. Then there was a stop to pick up six adults and two babies at Welarek before the airplane continued on to Sentani.

Whew! As you can see, PK-MEA gets a lot done on any given day. From training pilots to helping people stay healthy to transporting missionaries, villagers, and basic necessities.

Did you know you can adopt this KODIAK with a one-time or monthly recurring gift? By doing so you’ll play an important role in sharing Christ’s love with the Papuan people through this airplane.

Papua-MAF-KODIAK-PK-MEA-JulySix-year-old Mika was happily playing with his friends, running and climbing trees in the remote village of Mokndoma in Papua, Indonesia. But when he fell from a branch and it impaled his abdomen upon landing, his day quickly turned serious.

Missionaries in the village feared he might have internal bleeding or an infection. They called MAF and requested an emergency evacuation.

PK-MEA quickly arrived and Mika, his mother, and a missionary friend, boarded the plane. MAF pilot Mike Brown said a prayer for a safe flight and healing for Mika, and then they were off.

Upon arrival in Sentani, Mika was taken to the hospital where the doctor discovered the wood had pierced both sides of Mika’s small intestine and was starting to poke into his large intestine, causing toxins to leak into his abdominal cavity. Mika was whisked off to surgery, and two hours later, the doctor had successfully removed the wood and the fluid from his abdomen.

Less than a week later, Mika was well enough for PK-MEA to return him and his mother to their village, where he continued the healing process. Thanks to your support of PK-MEA, you had a part in Mika’s recovery. Now he’ll be able to run and climb again like every other young boy in the highlands of Papua.

PK-MEA took part in a three-day celebration in December to dedicate the Hupla Bible. It was an exciting time for the village of Soba, located in the highlands of Papua, Indonesia. Hundreds came from surrounding areas to celebrate.

Over the course of the past year, PK-MEA and the MAF Papua fleet made over 60 flights into Soba, carrying 45 tons of cargo and over 230 passengers. Many of these flights were related to the Hupla Bible dedication.

Some of the cargo PK-MEA brought in for the event included 3000 Bibles, building materials to build a new hall and stage for the event, pigs and cooking supplies, sleeping mats, and lots of passengers, of course.

For the Hupla people, this event was a milestone and marked the end of a decades-long process of translating the entire Bible into their native language—only the third complete translation in Papua.

The celebration included dancing, the roasting of 275 pigs, the baptism of 26 people, and a ceremony that represented the Bible reaching all generations.

“Now, I’m feeling like I’ll be able to learn more deeply about God’s Word,” said Kenuel Sobolim, the son of one of the Papuan translators. “When I sit with my own people, we’ll be able to read it together.”

Getting ready for the event was a lot of work, but PK-MEA is so grateful to have experienced it. To see people so excited about receiving a Bible in their very own language is something PK-MEA will never forget.

Hupla Bible Dedication in Papua, Indonesia

By adopting KODIAK PK-MEA, you played a part in the long process of getting God’s Word into the hands of the Hupla people. Thank you! Your gifts and prayers are appreciated.

Please remember the Hupla people in your prayers, that they would continue to grow in the understanding of God’s Word and never lose their excitement for His book.
